The applications of ultraviolet and infrared radiation and the radiation measurement, which have been researched by Research Committees set up by the Supervisor Committee of Study on Radiation and Related Radiometry, are surveyed, and the remarkable points for furture in these researches are described. In addition, the activities of the Photobiology Association of Japan, which was organized to study the influence of luminous radiation on living organism, is introduced. Finally furture aspects of the Research Committees are described.

Supervisor Committee of Study on Luminous Environment is active in fields related to physical aspects of illuminated space, basics of lighting, evaluation of luminous environment and lighting that, as a technology or a system component, realizes luminous environment. The aim of the committee is to advance research activities continuously. On the 90th anniversary of foundation of the Illuminating Engineering Institute, this paper reports recent activities involved in the committee with prospects for the future.

The last section discusses future tasks for and directions of LED lighting development.
