Abstract
The illumination industry is generally classified into three divisions: a lamp division that manufactures light bulbs and lighting fixtures; a device division that manufactures devices such as ballasts; and a material division that manufactures materials such as tungsten coils or copper wires for coils. Standardization activities are led by cooperation among these industrial divisions. Today, LEDs are attracting special attentions as a next generation illumination, and standardization activities are internationally being promoted actively for illumination LEDs. The intention of this article is to give an introduction to the current status of such standardizations for illuminations, and to make proposals about how we should cope with future standardization movement for the illuminations.
