Abstract
Guide lights are effective as equipment for evacuation, as they visually indicate possible escape routes using pictograms and arrows. However, since these indications do not change according to situation, evacuees must judge for themselves on the best escape route to take. An active guidance system for evacuation uses dynamically changing lights and sounds to guide evacuees through a safe route, which is chosen automatically based on the origin and current situation of a fire. Therefore, this system can achieve better results in guidance. This chapter introduces the design of an active guidance system, as well as efforts to improve the effects of these systems and spread their use.
